Sneak Peak Video: Horseback Riding in Argentina

January 9th, 2010

Woosh-the New Year is here.

I will soon get used to writing the numbers 1-0. Currently, I ‘m catching myself at 2-0-0, right before writing the “9″. I’m getting adept at squeezing a “1″ before a third “O”. Anyone else still adjusting?

We return from our 5 week Argentina trip on Monday, January 11. We’ve hung with the city folk in BsAs, drank copious amounts of Malbec in Mendoza, trekked on glaciers and mountains in Patagonia, and chilled with penguins and sea lions in Ushuaia.

Get ready for Argentina-related stories and pics out the wazoo, now that I’m re-emerging into wifi-friendly spots.

As a taste of what’s to come, here’s a video by Mr. Gnome.

(Forgive the shakiness-Mr. Gnome doesn’t suffer from arthritis, our point-and-shoot sneaks whiskey when we’re not looking.)

Horse-back riding near El Calafate, one of my favorite experiences of the trip:

(For the record-I said my horse’s name was Carasusia. Darn wind from those stunning Patagonia mountains…) We ended up loving horseback riding so much we went back two more times.

Week Reflections and Favorites 11/20/09

November 20th, 2009
I love goats. a lot.

i love goats.

I crave the sensation that my brain is sprouting fresh green shoots, germinated from new thoughts and information. I’ve been lucky this week to learn a lot, especially with my sister internsAbbie and Neha. All I can think about is wanting to sink deeper into this new direction of travel writing and devour words, places, syntax, and ideas…

I’m celebrating Friday with some of my favorite writing/media from the week:

1. The Forgotten City of Sarajevo. Stephanie, over at Twenty-Something Travel, writes about her experiences in Sarajevo and shares some great pics.

2. Marrekesh, You Broke Me Down. I am always stoked to see pieces by Lauren at Lonely Girl TravelsHer piece on Marrekesh, published on GirlsGetAway this week, is authentic, passionate, and universal. (Check out the thought-provoking MatadorAbroad article she wrote this week too.)

3. Discovering Home. Neha, at The Flying Suitcase, writes about the awakening of independence in a piece that resonated with my own journey despite completely different circumstances.

4. The Freedom to Feel: Is Happiness Our Only Choice? Christine’s article, at Brave New Traveler, elicits the question: Does the eternal struggle for happiness impede our ability to feel the full spectrum of emotions? I’ve only recently begun to comprehend that that only way to heal from pain is to go thru it, not around it. It has been transformative to realize how my aversion to confrontation and pain has actually caused more of it.

5. Call For Submissions: Show Us the True Meaning of Beauty. I am in love with the Operation Beautiful project. Great heads-up from Candice. Send in your submissions and change someone’s hour, day, life, for the better.

6. This video, Portrait of a Travel Writer-Robin Esrock, on The Traveler’s Notebook, inspired me all this week with his honesty and enthusiasm. Dreams are worth the sweat.
